A few months back, we thought we were making the first bold steps into the unknown, to boldly go where no coworking space had gone before and that’s not to get a dishwasher. We started to talk about ‘working out loud’, not our idea, even though we invented the internet, Facebook, Twitter, coworking and how to properly chop an avocado.
There is this very bright bloke called John Stepper, who has written a shed load of blogs, written a book and Ted stuff about the process he calls working out loud, sharing your thoughts and work with the world. Well not the entire planet, more like a small group that he calls a ‘circle’.
He believes in being generous and sharing, which given his corporate environment is inspiring and different, which already makes him a hero.
So our first attempt at this brave new world of being open and public about our work and changes ran out of steam. Simply due to the fact that we hesitated over the new website for a bit, well a big bit really, about 5 months.
Now we’ve learnt that pressing the ‘launch site’ button didn’t instigate business meltdown armageddon, we are now brimming with confidence and have taken the gloves off.
From idea to launch we knocked up our alt-incubator (stolen the title idea from my mate Seth’s altmba), we’ve hit the streets with our sharing breakfast and we are now going to properly embark on putting together and launching coworking’s first ever ‘Working Out Loud’ circle.
I have watched the TED talk, I’ve downloaded the free guides (sharp intake of breath there for all the ‘where’s the money in that’ crowd) and now we’re ready to press the button again.
Well, not quite, I need to read the guides and set up a landing page, do a few invite emails, schedule some social media and tell people. But now we’re pro’s at that bit because practice builds accelerated learning and we’ve done a lot of practice on the talking part, now we’re going to need to practice the ‘doing’ part.
Each week I am going to publically share our progress AKA humiliating myself, wipes sweat from brow, drinks some more soothing tea, stops biting nails and dives in.
Watch your inboxes for more details about our WOL (Working Out Loud, it’s a long thing to keep typing) circle launching at Euston Street’s number 1 coworking community soon and progress on how to build a sustainable coworking community and all the various projects we’ve got lined up.
