Every Thursday we run an open community coworking day here@Work Hubs.
This might be our best-kept secret.
But we are not as generous as you think.
It turned out that slogging our guts out to get people to events and meetups was a crap deal for everyone, even the people who came.
The cost and energy spent to build, promote and deliver an event did not serve the community or the commercial agenda for the @Work Hubs empire, even though it seemed like a no-brainer.
Then we spotted a few lines that we kept repeating.
“You should come along so you meet xxxxx”
“Have you had a coffee with?”
“You two should connect about that, we’ll put you in touch”
That is what we are good at, connecting people and getting out the way.
Besides, the last thing London needs is another event on inbound marketing, growth hacking, lean start sharing £u<king economy, buy my 10 business bollox, pop business shit.
One More Thing
People who use @Work Hubs either come into London from afar Birmingham, Essex or Newcastle, or they have families and need to get home to them, well that is what they tell us anyway…..
Which means staying for “Bernie’s Blogging Workshop” is a crap deal.
Last year we made a community table here @work hubs – people come and sit, work chat and thrash out ideas and problems, it was open to anyone. We thought it would be a great idea to run a mastermind or roundtable session.
The mastermind thing just did not work, we had created a highly informal and purposeful group of people that sit around a table together some Thursdays.
Any attempt by us to make it more than that went nowhere.
Which is even better, we are allergic to command and control too.
So what actually happens?
People show up anytime between 08:30am and 5pm set up their laptop either on the community table or in a corner if they need to get super focused.
There is a Nespresso coffee machine and tea here, around 12:30pm we all go for lunch at the local Falafel cafe or Ravis vegetarian buffet on Drummond street.
There are 450 other food shops and restaurants within a half mile radius – somehow these two places get all our love.
What is it like?
It is like running out of your house or your office to work in a cafe, you just happen to know and connect with everyone in the cafe. – Make Sense?
Do say: “What are you working today?”
Don’t say: “I’m pre-revenue and about to pivot”
