OK so here’s the first bit of sharing in this brave new world of ‘Working Out Loud’ (WOL). We haven’t yet launched, despite all the gusto and enthusiasm last week.
As I said, the talking part is always something we’re good at, the doing is the tough one.
Last week I ordered the book, I felt that was the least I could do to reciprocate to Mr Stepper for all the generosity that he’s prepared to share with the world. It arrived and has sat on a stack of books that I am working through.
I am currently glued to a book by Brene Brown called ‘Rising Strong’, and I love Brene almost as much as my superhero mate Seth. Her previous book ‘Daring Greatly’ is so applicable to this whole WOL project and her work on worthiness and vulnerability sooooo apply to this process of not being afraid to share stuff, to step into the ring and not worry about the critics.
I have also downloaded the guides, which I have started to read through, and I wisely choose the ‘Getting Started: A simple overview’ as the starting point.
We need to setup our circle and then launch the 12-week programme. Easy ha! Job done. I can now go back to reading Brene and colouring in.
So back to Brene, she talks a good deal about the fact that we are encouraged by our shaming and fear based society to have vulnerability shields and to not be open with our emotions or feelings. There are the gender specific things such as all men need to be tough and strong, women need to be pretty and good mothers. Amazing I know!! but here we are in 2016 and this shit still is widespread in society.
She talks about the need to be vulnerable to take down those shields, now that is not crying on YouTube like a manipulative celeb trying to sell more stuff. It is being open about our feelings and thoughts with people who matter and that requires a great deal of bravery.
But if it is done from a position that we are all already worthy and good enough, then we have nothing to fear. It is also accepting it is not the critic that matters as they have not been bold enough to step into the ring and be counted.
So the talking bit is done, I’m reading the guides and the book, next stop choose the date for the first week of the first ever coworking WOL circle.
Watch your inboxes and get ready to lower your shields.
